Finding An Affordable Health Care Plan

Having an affordable health care plan is an important measure to take when protecting your health and the health of your family. Without health insurance you may be reticent to go to the doctor when you need to or you may end up with mountains of debt when you are forced to go to the doctor because of a medical emergency.

Many insurance companies are working to make affordable health care plans available to individuals and families because they realize that many people are not covered by employee benefit programs and many others are not able to afford a monthly premium of hundreds of dollars. Individuals with jobs who offer health care coverage should take advantage of those programs as they are usually the cheapest plans available.

People who are not covered by employer sponsored health care need to do some research and put in the time required to find an affordable health care plan for their situation -- a little bit of time equals a whole lot of peace of mind! Many health care plans which are available for purchase by individuals and families are quite expensive -- frequently over $500/month. However, if you look harder you will find companies which provide truly affordable health care plans.

Don’t give up too early -- many states allow providers to compete with each other which has the effect of lowered prices. If you are one of the millions of uninsured who are struggling just to pay your monthly bills you may be able to qualify for the government assisted health care programs. If you make more money that is allowed for the free coverage you may still be able to qualify for the reduced coverage programs.

If you make too much money to qualify for the reduced programs you should still check with your government offices -- they may be able to direct you to companies which offer affordable health care plans for your situation.

Another place to find affordable health care plans is on the internet. A simple search for health insurance programs in your state is a great way to research companies. Many insurance websites allow you to apply online and sign up for coverage immediately.

If you are recently unemployed you may also be able to purchase short-term medical insurance which is nice to have in case of emergency (some states don’t allow these programs). Also, don’t forget to talk to people -- there are many people in the same situation as you and they may be able to provide good leads on affordable health care plans.
